NATIVE PLANTS

NATIVE PLANTS OF WEST CENTRAL OHIO AND EASTERN NORTH AMERICA

Plants listed here are either native to west central Ohio or they are native to eastern North America and have displayed hardiness in our area. Some plants native to eastern Ohio may not be listed, because they prefer or need the acid soils of that part of Ohio. Some plants native to other parts of North America, though hardy here, are not listed.

The genus and species are listed here. Look for that information on our signs. The cultivars that we grow and carry have the same hardiness characteristics as their native parents, unless otherwise noted. Please note that all varieties may not be carried at all times and in all sizes.

An excellent reference is “The Native Plants of Ohio”, Bulletin #865, from the OSU extension service.
