Bright or filtered light is best for all cactus and succulents. Direct sun through a window is fine, but some locations may be too hot and will burn the plants. Watch them carefully for signs of sunscald, especially in the summer.
Water once every 2 – 3 weeks, or when soil is dry. Plants near a sunny window might need more frequent watering. Cacti and succulents are able to withstand drought better than wet soil. Let the soil dry out between watering, as drenching an already damp pot may result in rot. The plants will not recover once rot has started.
Repotting is not needed often. If the seems over-sized for the pot or wants to tip over, it’s time to re-pot! There are pre-mixed cactus soils available or you can mix your own.
A good recipe is:
1 part potting soil -1 part washed sand -1 part coarse gravel
Fertilize once a month with a balanced liquid cactus fertilizer, or once a year with a slow-release fertilizer.
