Pleasant Hill

This 20 year old home is situated in a private country setting, high above the Stillwater River. The rear of the home had a gentle slope for about 50’ that transitioned to a steep grade down to pasture land at river level. The rear had only been developed in grass. The homeowner wanted to make it more useful for the family of teenagers, which inlcudes a patio with fire pit and access to the lower level from the garage and driveway. The client desired the hardscapes to be designed in keeping with the wooded setting of the property and she wanted the least amount of plants possible and yet still look appealing. They also needed a retaining wall at the grade transition to allow them to have a more useful back yard. Natural limestone boulders were used for the retaining wall along with natural stone steps. River cobbles were used in waves, to help reduce the amount of planting areas. Hydrangea petiolaris is planted along the unsightly concrete retaining wall and will soon be a wonderful wall of easy-care foliage.
